The new upgrade is very damn impressive!
The new GUI looks far better than the old widgets.
And the biggest complain I have for old android is the touch screen doesn't
react snappily enough, the new one seems far better in that aspect. :)
Now we just need better hardware, then G1 can give iphone a run for its

iPhone is popular because of the applications.
You can also sell applications in android market, so that keeps the
incentives.

iPhone was popular before they have so many applications.
Google takes less for android applications so the developers have more
incentive to develop for them.
