However, when i tried to use TexMaker to compile a tex file, still cannot
find .dvi. I only see .aux and .log files generated.

Anything wrong?
I also installed the plugin for gedit, indeed, the Latex and tools menu
appear in gedit, but when I run "tools -> Latex ->pdf", no response?

pdflatex your_file_name.tex
if you use bibliography in the tex, run this command three times.
