There are 2 Betas and 3 Alphas now

Announced by Mark Shuttleworth on the 22nd of September, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (
codename Lucid Lynx) will be released next year, on April 29th. As you will
notice, this is the first time in the history of Ubuntu when the development
team changes the release cycle... from six Alphas and one Beta as we were
