Mine is free standing. In our area, attached deck requires addition fee for
soil test so why bother.
You can embed the post into the concrete or build concrete post with rebar
inside like mine:
Yes, I do it on site, it will be too heavy. In addition, you may find it be
difficult to put the joice in later on because it is hard to adjust parallel.
