the roof, spent about $1200 to change the copper flashings. No other
issues so far.
its really hard to tell. My cousin bought her house in 1998 in NJ for $850K,
it was an expensive house back then and was brand new construction. 13
years later, the house is having so much issues, from basement leaks to
foundation cracks. She is having way more issues and a lot more repairs than
my 1928 house...

可能你的运气不错，或者你的要求比较低，有主观因素影响的观点很难普遍适用。1928
年的房子也许你不担心什么，但是我入住肯定要担心我家庭的健康（石棉，铅，发霉，
保温性等等)。我一个朋友买的68年的房子检测出石棉，花了很高的价钱把它处理掉了
，重新安装了全新的外墙。

still being used in China. People would do just fine... As for my house,
the previous owner had removed it a few years ago and we had an independent
lab to test the air quality and it was fine.
there is also a risk in life, the newer house may have the poisonous chinese
-made drywalls...
If the house is well maintained, an older house would last just as long as a
new house...
in addition, in some well established areas, there is no new house for sale.

What you said is my point. You can make sure that your house is as good as
or better than a new house because you have done some inspections. However,
we can not be sure about other old houses. My point is that an old house has
a much higher rate than a new house that causes some potential (high) cost
from the owner to maintain.
We can't expect everyone is like you so professional so careful.
