所以这个很难，要改的话不是不可能，但是工程比较大。

on the wall and magically they can route a pipe between the two without
cutting other holes, do you?

You do realize there is only maybe 1-2 feet of space between the ceiling
drywall and the subfloor on 2nd floor, don't you? How are you going to
stick a hard pipe into that space if you don't cut open a considerable sized
hole on the ceiling? Howe are you going to install support brackets along
the way, seal the connections between pipe segments, and seal the space
between pipe and wall without cutting access holes along the route?

具体怎么做要看实际情况。
直上到屋顶是第一选择，能不能做得到，要看二楼的布置，如果正好烟道上方就是墙，
那么可以将烟道布置在墙体中，上到阁楼然后出屋顶。
附墙包出烟道也可以。
如果二楼是房间的中间，就只好在楼板间顺着梁从侧墙出风。
如果梁的方向不是指向侧墙的，烟道是不能直接穿12“的木梁的，那一般就要降低天花
，这个工程就很吓人了，不值得。

Then your installer probably did it wrong.
If he only cut one hole above your island, one hole on the wall, and somehow
he could route a pipe between the two holes, then unless it was a very
short run, he must have used flexible pipes.
Flexible pipes should not be used for range hood exhaust. Not only are they
inefficient for the purpose, but they would eventually crack and leak, and
you would then have a mess on your hand.

应该找什么样的工人来装？木工电工还是handyman？
