following:
1. If the topic comes up, ask if there's a range for this position.
definitely do this if it's a big company and the manager does not have
direct P&L responsibilities, in which case s/he is more willing to divulge
information about payscale
2. If pressed, say that you want what the company thinks is fair. If
pressed further say that you will have to look at the whole benefits package
, including stock options/espp, 401k, vacation, medical, etc, to be able to
come up with a number. But also make sure to stress that you are interested
in this position/company for whatever reasons, so it doesn't seem like you
are a mercenary who only cares about money. Also ask about living expenses
in the area to deflect this question. You really don't want to give a
number out first, which is bad for multiple reasons
3. If pushes come to shoves, then tell them a range, in your case maybe 70-
80k, but be prepared to be offered 70
