Position Summary: The Lead Data Warehouse Engineer will work within the
Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) team to install, update, maintain, monitor
and support the Enterprise Data Warehouse/Enterprise Business Intelligence
Tools, applications and databases to support all KBB Business units. The
individual will work closely in a team consisting of other data warehouse
engineers, business analysts, system analysts, quality assurance engineers
and database administrators in developing data warehouse solutions to meet
stated requirements, develop detailed specifications and unit test plans for
implementation. Since EDW works with multiple business units to create
cross functional solutions, the Lead Data Warehouse Engineer must be able to
interface with various business units to understand the requirements and
prepare documentation to support development.
The individual must be capable of understanding the complex object design
and the underlying data model of the system. The individual must be
comfortable with developing data-centric applications using Netezza,
MicroStrategy, Microsoft Business Intelligence stack (SSIS, SSAS and SSIS,
able to develop ETL packages, and reports, and is expected to lead the
architecture and design activities for the application. The individual is
also expected to develop queries and stored procedures involving complex
database structures. The individual must have excellent communication skills
, work well in a team environment, enjoy solving complex problems and be
able to work in a fast paced environment.
Position responsibilities:
• Design and develop Enterprise Data Warehousing solutions (
including Netezza, Microsoft Business Intelligence stack (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS)
as well as MicroStrategy product suite).
• Install update, maintain, monitor and support Data Warehouse/
BITools (including MicroStrategy, ProClarity, and SAS) in support of all KBB
Business units.
• Create and maintain stored procedures, triggers, views and
constraints to support systems and databases.
• Assess new initiatives to determine the work effort and estimate
the necessary time-to-completion.
• Create test plans and scenarios for development unit testing.
• Work with peers to carry out unit testing of new development.
• Document new development, procedures or test plans as needed.
• Participate in data builds and deployment efforts.
• Participate in projects through various phases.
• Occasional overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential skills, knowledge and abilities:
• Fluent in Chinese (Mandarin)
• Strong experience with Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack (
SSIR, SSRS and SSAS.
• Experienced in data warehousing tools and technique (e.g. Kimball
etc.).
• Ability to coach and mentor others on the design, development,
and usage of the MicroStrategy product suite.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team oriented environment.
• Ability to complete the full lifecycle of software development
and deliver on time.
• Ability to work with end users to gather requirement and convert
that to working documents.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a heads-up programming attitude.
• Experience with object-oriented design and development principles
within the .NET framework.
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university;
or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
• Utilize complex computer operations (intermediate programming in
3rd and 4th generation languages, relational databases, and operating
systems) and advanced features of software packages (word-processing,
spreadsheet, graphics, etc.).
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex
documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or
complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or
innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive
speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top
management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability
and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and
trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,
ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral,
diagram, or schedule form.
Non-essential skills, knowledge and abilities:
• Experience with Agile and Scrum development process desirable.
• Experience with Netezza is a plus.
• Experience with MicroStrategy Command Manager, Enterprise Manager
, Object Manager, Project Merge Wizard, and Merge Wizard is a plus.
