Explore the world of drums and drumming with musician and educator Marcus
Miller.

A Visit with Los Angeles Poet Laureate, Luis Rodriquez
Rodriguez is convinced that a writer can change the world. Indeed it was
education and the power of words that helped him break free of the poverty,
violence and despair he endured for years as an East L.A. gang member. Today
, Rodriguez shares his stories through appearances at libraries, prisons,
juvenile detention facilities, schools and universities, migrant camps,
Native American reservations and homeless shelters, sparking dialogue on the
complex but vital issues of race, class, gender and personal rage.

This unique book is about exploring Paris and Los Angeles. As a long-time
resident of both cities, author Diane Ratican curates visual pairings of Los
Angeles and Paris with a newfound appreciation for their similarities,

Living and working in the San Gabriel Valley we see the names Verdugo,
Sepulveda, Peña, Perez, Trujillo, Cruz, Rubio, Duarte, Marquez and
Carrillo on the streets we drive, the canyons we hike and the cities we live
in. Ever wondered who these people were? Join historian and scholar Roberta
Martinez and learn about these first familias of the foothills who lived
through the Mexican American War, the Gold Rush, the Industrial Revolution,
the Mexican Revolution, and the first stages of urbanism in the San Gabriel
Valley.
