Launch of Pasadena as an Early Learning City
The City of Pasadena and its new Office of the Young Child invite you to
attend the “Launch of Pasadena as an Early Learning City” celebration. At
this free community event, families and the public at large can engage in
myriad activities that foster children’s development and learning from
birth to age five. Come and learn about the extensive community resources
available for child development, brain science, parenting and neighborhood
resources, and be among the first to co-create and shape Pasadena’s Early
Learning Movement.

Rabindranath Tagore: A Celebration of His Music, Art and Poetry
The first Asian man to win the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 in Kolkata
, India, Rabindranath Tagore’s contributions to the world went far beyond
literature. Gifted in painting, philosophy, science, music and social
activism, he fought for better economic and educational opportunities for
the people of Bengal. Join us and learn more about this colossal figure in
Indian history as we celebrate Tagore’s life with a special musical
presentation. Performances provided by Dayita Datta, Shruti Music Academy,
Lawrence Kolakowski, Sara Acharya Dudukgian and AnnMarie Hurtado.

A Visit from Dr. Kwei Quartey, Author of the Darko Dawson Mystery Series
Experience a lively discussion with Kwei Quartey, a Pasadena writer and
physician born in Ghana, West Africa. A 2011 nominee for Pasadena Public
Library’s One City, One Story program, Dr. Quartey will talk about his
mystery series, read from his latest novel Death by His Grace, share
information about Ghana and answer questions from the audience. Books will
be available for sale and signing.

Helping First-Generation Parents Navigate College Admissions
Learning to navigate the road to college admissions with your high school
student can be difficult, but even more so when English is not your first
language. Many first-generation families feel lost and do not understand
where to go to access free resources because most instructions are in
English only. Find the tools you need in the language you speak to better
support and assist your child during the college admissions process.
Translations will be provided in Spanish and Chinese.

Forensic Specialists: Fighting Crime with Science
Have you ever dreamed of being a crime fighter? Did you know math and
chemistry could come in handy? Forensic specialists use a wide range of
science, math and technology skills to solve cases. Learn all about it from
Noel Herrera and other forensic specialists from the Pasadena Police
Department, who will demonstrate analyzing fingerprints, detecting bodily
fluids, and the many other ways that they fight crime with science.
