board is very good and supportive. Here is my two-cents about interview ,
working etc. Sorry about English because I am very slow in inputing Chinese.
Actually my major is not ME, I worked with a lot of mechnical engineers over
the years. My major is optical engineering. Still I think some of my
lessons will be good for ME people.
The first lesson is that : we do not have a lot of bargin power when we were
just fresh out |

对于fresh PhD来说，很多industry opening跟自己的research并不well match。在这
种时候passion for the position怎么更好的体现？resume又怎么attractive？另外on
-site interview要给一个自己research的报告，如果自己的背景跟research 不能well
match，这样的报告怎么准备？公司的人又是怎么考虑这种candidate？
我觉得应该只有申请faculty时对研究方向跟opening要一致的要求比较高，工业界应该
还好吧？可是在学校里的presentation一直是面向教授和学生，几乎没有面向工业界的
经历。现在开始找industry工作，不知道工业界到底怎么看待candidate，我们resume
和presentation应该怎么来catch eyes，不会只是生拉硬扯甚至瞎掰吧。

发帖数: 589 | 6 一般来说，有50% match就已经很不错了。
Passion for the position很简单，计算多的，就说自己热爱programming，实践多的
，就说自己喜欢解决real life problems。
Resume自然就是往job description上面靠。很多东西都是可以用不同方式来表达的，
具体怎么做，只能靠自己多琢磨，多看看别人的简历，慢慢积累经验。
Presentation也是一样。Phone Interview的时候可以问问，对方对自己哪方面的背景
最感兴趣。Google一下参加Presentation的人，是phd的，看看他们的paper，尽量用他
们的习惯用语来表达自己做的东西；最重要还是如楼主所说，语言简单，哪怕不是学工
程的人都能听得懂，我觉得这是博士应该具备的能力之一。

LZ说的非常好，于俺心有戚戚焉啊，呵呵。尤其是lz和俺都经历过04年第一次找工作的
苦闷，一下感觉贴近了许多。也许只有经历过那样一段的沮丧无奈和打击，才能逼迫自
己全面重新审视自己的方方面面。
除了可贵的经验外，俺最认同的是LZ清楚自身的需要，审时度势，果断放弃了学术界的
造诣，没有一条路走到黑。这种能力不是书本上学得到的，但往往是最关键的。
审，度-vision；时，势-things "invisible"
