Job Description
Position Summary:
Be a key contributor to the leading edge and highly motivated development
team. The Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible for mechanical system
design and development for a MEMS-based, hand-held micro fuel cell used to
power portable consumer electronics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
•Develop micro-fluidic balance-of–plant architecture for micro SOFC
system.
•Execute detailed system designs that minimize size and improve
system performance.
•Produce designs that are optimized for fluidic, thermal, and shock
robustness considerations.
•Prepare analyses using both analytic models and computer simulation
tools such as FEA and CFD. ◦Performs lab tests and experiments to
validate design assumption’s and analysis results
◦Develop, internally and through vendor partnerships, micro-sized
pumps, valves, sensors, manifolds, and thermal management components.
◦Design molded and stamped components for high volume assembly.
◦Perform manufacturing technology exploration and advanced design
activities.
■Identify and evaluate major system cost drivers and impact of system
architecture alternatives.
■Manage design documentation including drawings, BOMs, and assembly
procedures.
■Manage projects and vendors to meet performance, schedule and cost goals.
Qualifications Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science, advanced degree
preferred.
•A minimum of 7 years of experience in multidisciplinary system
design or portable electronics.
•Experience with high volume, low cost product development,
preferably in the consumer products space.
•Significant experience in one or more of the following areas:
•High volume handheld or portable system design and packaging
•Precision fluidic components, including miniaturized pumps and
valves
•Sensor design and packaging
•Electronics packaging
•Molded component design ◦Experience in Design for
Manufacturability (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical
tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, and geometric
tolerancing.
◦Self motivated and proactive with demonstrated creative and critical
thinking capabilities.
◦Ability to independently determine and develop original design
approaches.
◦Excellent analytical skills.
◦Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
◦Must be able to communicate well with cross-functional team members,
be able to efficiently collaborate with team members to achieve project
goals, and contribute positively to the engineering community environment.
◦Fluency with 3D CAD, structural and thermal FEA modeling, and
