Engineering. Based in our Torrance, CA office, this position will provide a
high visibility and exciting opportunity to work on turbocharger component
life prediction methodology projects. This position will be responsible for
advancing existing lifing methods and help reduce wheel development cycle
time.
Responsibilities will include:
• Develop calibrated life prediction systems for turbocharger rotating
components while reducing the need to perform full scale turbocharger
testing.
• Evaluate and/or develop analytical procedures and related tools that
improve life prediction method accuracy. Develop and evolve advanced
testing and measurement techniques. Help develop and maintain roadmap for
applicable methodology development projects.
• Carry out thermal, stress, fatigue, and vibration analyses of high
speed rotating machinery in support of product development. Coordinate/Coach
/Manage simulation tasks with offshore design center & international teams.
• Communicate technical data, methods, assumptions and results to
internal and external customers. Interpret CAE results into meaningful
recommendations/risks for product designs.
Basic Qualifications
• MS/PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with emphasis in
dynamics/vibrations and/or fatigue.
• Experience in turbocharger or high speed rotating machinery
vibration and durability related issues desired. Knowledge of fluid
structure interaction is desired.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
• Ability to formulate an approach and develop a corresponding project
plan with the associated timing, resources and HC needs, and execute it.
• Previous experience in structural design/analysis methodology
development and tools. Must be expert in at least 1 commercial FEA package
and should be able to perform structural, modal and thermal analyses. Must
be familiar with at least 1 standard commercial CFD package. Must be
familiar with engineering programming (e.g. Matlab, Fortran). Working
knowledge of various types of vibration measuring instruments and data
acquisition systems is plus.
• Basic mechanical “hands-on” ability. Excellent communications
skills. Strong drive to deliver and focus on continuous improvement.
