Thermal Research Scientist
Toyota Research Institute of North America, located in Ann Arbor, Michigan,
is seeking a full-time thermal research scientist to support the in-house
research activities. This individual will join a team responsible to develop
novel thermal management technologies to enhance the performance of vehicle
components from electronics to battery system. The position requires
staying abreast of new thermal management technologies, performing original
research, publishing/presenting results, involve in collaborative research.
The position is subject to annually contract renewal.
Responsibilities:
• Design and evaluate passive heat spreading technologies such as heat
pipes and vapor chambers for thermal management applications.
• Design new thermal management concepts and develop advanced cooling
technologies with a focus on two-phase cooling.
• Develop simulation and experimental tools to validate concept ideas.
• Work in close collaboration with colleagues specialized in material
science to push forward R&D efforts.
Qualifications:
• Ph.D. or equivalent in Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering
or a related discipline with an emphasis on heat transfer or other type of
transport phenomena.
• Proficiency in heat transfer measurement techniques and experimental
setups.
• Hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas is
preferred: (1) Two-phase cooling materials and systems; (2) Thermal
management of electronics and/or heat exchangers; (3) Ability to create
computational models of cooling systems; (4) Experience with MATLAB, or
finite element analysis software (COMSOL, ANSYS)
• Strong track record of research capability in heat transfer or
related areas.
• Team player with strong communication skills.
