They want you not because you lost financial support but you can fit into
their research, you can do killer research to help them get fund. So i suggest
you do a little research on what they are doing and try to say that your past
experience is perfect for them

It won't help at all for mentioning "losing funding'. They won't care
and may feel you are not good enough. They only care if you are useful to
