SCID mice and SCID-human mice (p. 524-525; Fig. 23-1)
* SCID mice fail to develop mature T and B lymphocytes due to a failure in
VDJ recombination caused by defective recombinase enzymes. This defect renders
SCID mice severely immune deficient so they must be housed under sterile
conditions.
* SCID mice can be humanized in order to study the human immune system.
Portions of human fetal liver (a rich source of pluripotent stem
