Functional Polymer Materials from Natural and Sustainable Resources
Call for Papers
Functional polymers represent a class of materials with advanced chemical,
physical, and biological properties, which have found broad uses in both
industry and people’s daily life, including semiconducting materials,
stimuli-responsive materials, and biomimetic materials. Due to the higher
demand for functional polymer materials, it is essential to develop new
polymers with superior properties to replace traditional materials in
existing applications. In the meantime, the necessity for a change in raw
material supply is anticipated due to both finite nonrenewable fossil fuel
and more stringent environmental regulations. Because of this, the
development of green materials using natural renewable resources has
attracted much attention as an effort to build a green sustainable society.
The future focus on this arena will be the discovery of novel renewable raw
materials as well as advanced synthesis technology to prepare new functional
polymer materials.
Due to the strong desire from both academia and industry to learn more about
this emerging technology area, this special issue will try to cover the
recent findings in functional polymer materials from renewable natural
resources and beyond. We invite researchers to submit original research and
review papers that focus on the development of functional polymers and
renewable polymers. It particularly encourages an interdisciplinary research
focusing on the development of functional polymers from renewable natural
resources. We also encourage the submission of research articles discussing
the characterization and mechanism study of functional polymers and
biodegradable polymers as well as polymers from renewable resources.
Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
New green monomer synthesis and synthetic methods
Synthesis of functional polymers
Synthesis of polymers from natural resources
Functional composite materials and polymer blends
Characterization and application of functional polymers
Biodegradable polymers and mechanism
New mechanism and technology in synthesize polymers with unique molecular
structures, compositions, and functionalities
