Adhesives Center of Excellence. The Adhesives Center of Excellence (ACE)
was created to address emerging market needs, exploit new technology and
close competitive gaps.
The purpose of this position is to develop and commercialize cutting-edge
adhesives technology that advances the strategic interests of one or more
Avery Dennison businesses. You will engage with technical and marketing
people in our various businesses to understand emerging market needs, and
lead a focused team to deliver new technology.
You will also be a mentor within the group and a technical leader who can
demonstrate added value to Avery Dennison’s technology and business
platforms as a whole. This includes fostering an environment of creativity &
innovation while ensuring lab productivity and project progress and success.
This is a highly visible position and key R&D projects are regularly
reviewed by the company’s top management.
Responsibilities
•Develop cutting-edge emulsion adhesives technology through careful
study of the literature, new scientific discovery, external development and
development of intellectual property.
•Lead project teams doing applied research. Develop and implement
comprehensive technical project plans.
•Conduct hands-on polymerizations and associated material
characterizations. Supervise and coach lab technician and lab support
colleagues.
•Transfer knowledge to fellow chemists via presentations, technical
reports and day-to-day interaction. Train and coach junior colleagues in the
theory and application of conventional and new polymerization technology.
•Actively participate in employee safety programs.
Qualifications
•PhD in Chemistry or Polymer Science with significant experience in
the design, synthesis and scale-up of emulsion polymers. Experience in
acrylic polymerization strongly preferred.
•Minimum 5 years R&D experience in developing emulsion polymers for
coatings or adhesives.
•Track record of developing and commercializing creative and
innovative technologies.
•Well-networked in relevant technical fields and applications.
•Thorough knowledge of polymer characterization and analytical/
applications testing.
•Experience employing Project Management systems. Demonstrated
knowledge in using statistical design of experiments.
•Fluent in English, with excellent verbal & written communication
skills. |
