Adhesives Center of Excellence. The Adhesives Center of Excellence (ACE) was
created to address emerging market needs, exploit new technology and close
competitive gaps.
This position will develop and commercialize high-performance adhesives
technology for structural applications. You will stay current in relevant
technical fields as well as engage with technical and marketing people in
our various businesses to understand emerging market needs.
You will define and lead technology projects, and participate in product
development teams to commercialize technology.
This is a highly visible position and key R&D projects are regularly
reviewed by the company’s top management.
Responsibilities
In your role as Sr. Scientist, delivering on these responsibilities is
critical to success:
•Build and expand core structural adhesives technology through careful
study of the literature, new scientific discovery, external development and
development of intellectual property.
•Lead project teams doing applied research. Develop and implement
comprehensive technical project plans.
•Conduct hands-on polymerizations and associated polymer/adhesive
characterizations. Supervise and coach lab technician and lab support
colleagues.
•Transfer knowledge to fellow chemists via presentations, technical
reports and day-to-day interaction. Train and coach junior colleagues in the
theory and application of conventional and new polymerization technology.
•Actively participate employee safety programs.
Education
•PhD in Chemistry or Polymer Science with experience in the design,
synthesis and scale-up of solvent and 100%-solids polymers.
Experience
•Experience with designing polymers for structural applications is
preferred.
•Knowledge of acrylic, epoxy and urethane materials.
•Minimum 5 years R&D experience in coatings or adhesives.
•Experience in free radical polymerization.
Other
•Track record of developing and commercializing creative and
innovative technologies.
•Well-networked in relevant technical fields and applications.
•Thorough knowledge of polymer characterization and analytical/
applications testing
•Experience employing Project Management systems. Demonstrated
knowledge in using statistical design of experiments.
•Fluent in English, with excellent verbal & written communication
