公元13世纪，Albrecht公爵在Gottingen旧城区外建立了新
城区，这被Gottingen市民看作是一种挑衅，1319年，趁着
Albrecht公爵出现财政危机把新城区买了下来，现在城市西
边的城门仍完好的保留着，城门里面是Gottingen六座哥特教
堂之一的St Mary教堂，1524年，Gottingen著名的木雕师
Castorp，Bertold为St Mary教堂建造了一座神殿，其中的
侧厅和一幅“月牙圣母像”依然风彩不减当年
沿着城墙走到北面的位于weender街上的Auditorium maxim-
um，这是Gottingen大学的一座建于1862-65年的罗马风格的
礼堂，门前的四座石像是Gottingen大学首任校长von Münch-
hausen，Gottingen大学的创立者Georg August，Helmstedt
大学（1810年关闭）的创立者von Braunschweig，哲学家
Leibniz，礼堂外面的窗户之间雕刻有Gottingen历史上的著名
人物，作为大学的博物馆里面收藏有17世纪的荷兰油画
再往东不远是一座古城堡Ernst-Ho
