下面是1825年一家美国报纸对Gottingen大学的报导，当时
的美国看欧洲就像现在的中国看美国一样
“著名的Gottingen大学从建立之初就有很高的声誉和大批
学生（相比Harvard大学和yale大学）除讲师外有40多名教
授，每学期开100多门课，它的植物园，自然科学博物馆，解
剖实验室，天文台都是世界上最好的，它的图书馆（最初收
藏哲学书）随时开放，有20多万册书，加上以前关闭（现在
重新开放）的大学图书馆总共有40万册书，有1500多名慕名
前来的学生，不光有本地的，而且还有世界各地的学生，学生
的质量同数量是成正比例的，很多学生每天学习14小时，这在
美国是很少见的，而所有这些并不是因为它的历史悠久，Got-
tingen大学比Harvard大学建校还晚100年”
