Dyson对Feynman最初的印象是：
“Feynman对量子理论已经有自己的一套见解...每次他带着
最新的想法从门外冲进来，一边挥舞手臂，一边用各种声音
效果来加以解释的时候，我就觉得起码生活不会沉闷”
1948年6月，Feynman开车带着Dyson做横穿美国的旅行，有
一次，他们来到一个叫Vinita的小镇上的一家小旅店过夜，
后来他们都清晰地记得那个夜晚，Dyson是这样回忆的：
“在那个小房间里，雨水不断敲打着污旧的窗框，我们不睡觉，
一直聊天到天明，Feynman一直在谈她死去的太太，他如何照
顾她，如何让她生前的最后一段日子过得舒服一点，他做这些
事情都心甘情愿，还有他们两个人如何串通好去戏弄洛斯.阿
拉莫斯的邮政检察官，它的笑话，还有她的勇敢，他谈到死亡
的神情好像他已经很熟悉这回事了，唯有那种经历死亡仍不改
其生命气质的人才做得到这一点”
Feynman的回忆则充分表现了他讲故事的本领：
“房间相当干净，还有个洗手台，看起来挺不错的，我们收拾好
准备睡觉
他说：“我必须上洗手间一下”
“洗手间在走廊那一头”
我们听到走廊上有女孩子嘻笑和走来走去的声音，他有点紧张，
