Lots of 2010 Match applicants are doing OB. Here are some advice I think
might be helpful:
1. The ultimate goal is to get a great LOR. Do try your best to impress
your attending. Learning medical knowledge is not the priority here.
2. Find a nice attending who is most like to help you. Not just any
attending who takes an observer.
3. Be clear with your attending what you can do, what you can not do
during OB. Ask him directly at the | l*********e

1.what kind of gift do you prepare for attending, resident, intern, nurse,
etc... after OB?
2.how to ask for LOR from attendings?

I have a question, where should one stay while no patient to see, is there
any place that an observer can stay?

It depends. I only gave the attending a thank you card, I wrote on it how I
feel genuinely about the OB experience.
Didnot give any gift to others.
You may want to find out the personal interest of attending , then give him
a thoughtful gift.
Since attending is busy, so ask to meet him a coupld of days before when he
is available to meet you. Usually he knows you need a LOR by the end of your
OB. It should be all natural if he thinks you did a great job. I thought
about what I need to say, i.e

I would ask the residents/interns in that hospital. :)
