come up with a story about how does he/she know you very well, then the
letter is believeble. The relationship can be boss/employee, teacher/student
, co-workers, doctor/observer, etc. Avoid letters from family members,

4 ROLs from MD, one from Chinese MD back in China, 3 from American MD (among
of them one is a Chinese physician here). Another one is from an American
PhD,but not my project boss, is this all right?

发帖数: 1334 | 6 You only need 3-4 LORs for each program. If you think the letter from the Ph.D. may not be suitable, you don't have to use it. There is no requirement about your current or previous adviser's letter.

American MD 的，正好把 PHD 老板不留痕迹的踢走。尽量别跟别人说你现在的老板不
愿意给你写好的推荐信。有些老板就是傻波伊，你运气不好摊上了。要是能换现在赶紧
换。
申请看的是整个package，如果别的方面强没有现在老板的推荐也是可能的吧。

发帖数: 1334 | 8 This is understandable. A strong letter from the current adviser is very helpful. However, there are always good boss, reasonable boss, and bad boss. A so-so letter can destroy your chance.
For academic positions such as a postdoc, current adviser's letter is very important, sometimes pretty much mandatory. For residency match however, we're instructed at school that "the persons who write your letters of recommendation be personally familiar with your clinical skills." "Letters from the adviser
