(3)PhD assistant professor

My suggestion: please prepare different LORs for path and IM. A general one
may not help much if any.
PhD's letter will help, no matter which specialty. Please ask him to focus
more on personality rather than research ability.

Thanks a lot for your kind reply and valuable suggestion. I definitely need
a recommendation letter from my boss for both of pathology and IM
application. My question is that if I should ask him to write two different
letters with each one only emphasizing one specialty. In this case, it might
be confusing for both of the writer and ECFMG staffs, and the letters might
get easily messed up during uploading and assignment (pathology letter went
to IM application).

I just found this since I am having the same concern:
Q: Is it possible to submit two specialty specific letters from the same
writer on your ERAS application? surely, they could write a vauge letter,
useable for anything, but say you actually want 2 specific ones from the
same person. Will ERAS get confused and send the wrong one to the wrong
program? How can you make sure the right one is being sent?
A: There's a way to do this, and it's not ERAS who will get confused.
Okay, so let's say John Smith, MD is writing you a letter for both Internal
Medicine and for General Surgery.
On ERAS, you make one listing which says, Med-John Smith, MD, and another
which says Surg-John Smith, MD, or some variation on that.
Those titles are just for you to know which letter it which, but more
importantly, for the ERAS person at your school to know how to connect the
actual letter with the ERAS name. (That's the person you need to make sure
ISN'T confused about what you're doing). Just talk to him or her, tell them
what to expect and what the abbreviations mean, and you should be okay.
Does that make sense?
I am thinking, can the program see the information like "Med-John Smith, MD"
or "Surg-John Smith, MD"? If they can see it, they will kind of know what
is going on.
