我自己买了一个最便宜的ipad3 （$499）.
从两年前开始，一路ipad1， 2 使用下来，感觉很好。苹果的软件选择真是别家没得比
的。
日常用途
Email， 上网， 用dropbox, evernote, CHM+, Kindle 看资料，viber, google voice
, skype 交流
, USA today, ABC player, podcast， nietflix， TED, this American life 和 60
minutes, 随
时可以听/看到， 用零碎时间了解美国文化和学习语言。
对我而言，相对laptop和smart phone，更喜欢IPAD3集下面三点于一身。

Epocrates Rx - Free. Drug reference. Once a year, generally in August,
they have a free promotion to get the upgraded version that has disease
information.
Mobile Merck Medicus - Free but requires registration. Clinical resource
for quick reading about your patients. Includes Merck Manual Professional
Edition, Harrison’s Practice – Answers on Demand, Pocket Guide to
Diagnostic Tests. Can also use web version from a computer.
Medscape from WebMD - Free. Drugs, OTC, herbals, disease conditions,
procedures, interactions.
Micromedex - Micromedex Drug Information on iTunes - Free. Arguably as
good as Epocrates for drugs - without so much scrolling. Useful Clinical
Teaching section.
General Programs
Diagnosaurus – Cheap DDx tool.
Skyscape Archimedes – Free medical calculator. Bear in mind that EPIC
has calculators built into the system. Also does drug interactions.
MD EZlabs - Free. Quick and easy lab values; gives ddx for abnormals.
EyeChart on iTunes - Free. Not the best, but it works.
MedCalc - Cheap. Constantly updated with just about any calculation you
could ever need. Pro version not necessary.
RH Medical Labs on iTunes - Cheap. Gives normal lab values dependent on
set factors (age, sex, pregnant, etc).
Eponyms - Eponyms on iTunes - Cheap. Because we all know that doctors
enjoy naming stuff after themselves.
Hopkins Guides - Moderate. Antibiotic, HIV, diabetes guides.
Family Medicine
ePSS - Free screening guide based on age, sex, risk factors.
Pediatrics
STAT Asthma Guidelines on iTunes - Free. Classification + treatment.
Stepwise approach chart.
Pet the Animals on iTunes - Free. Large pictures of common animals; good
for interacting with children and getting them to name animals/imitate
sounds.
Neuro
STAT NIH Stroke Scale on iTunes - Free. There are several stroke scale
programs available, but this one is free. Includes the pictures so you don't
have to carry them in your pocket.
Derm
Visual DX - Free. Register with UTSW library website. See bottom of
linked page for instructions.

Simplenote: Notes, lists, todo’s; web component for storing lists on the
web, requires free -pwaccount
iDraft: Note taking and lines drawings
Evernote: Notes, lists, photos, miscellaneous stuff; web component for
storing in cloud and downloading to PC or MAC; integrates into Outlook to
replace OneNote
DOCUMENT READING
Goodreader: Robust reader that accesses pdf, word, txt, excel, PowerPoint,
html (web pages), and jpegs. Allows folder create and document management.
Integrates with IPad to open and save attachments. Integrates with browser
to import pages and pdf’s. Uses cloud locations such as Dropbox. Allows
highlighting and comments.
Papers: Does everything Goodreader does. Integrates with Mac Papers program
for robust cataloging of pdfs. Different look and feel, and more expensive.
QuickOffice: MS Office compatible, allowing edits on all Office file types.
Will show PowerPoint slides through a vga adaptor (will not do animation and
may move fancy fonts).
REMOTE ACCESS
Logmein: All these programs provide remote access to your PC/MAC desktop.

DOCUMENT CONTROL
DropBox: One of many apps that access a cloud based storage area (think
thumbdrive in space) where files of any kind can be stored and accessed from
multiple computers. All of these have IPad, PC, and MAC apps that you can
load on all your computers to access the files anywhere.
Evernote.
GTD – TASKS LISTS
Toodledo: Subscription based todo list maintained on your IPad and in the
cloud. There is a free version that is very limited.
Appigo Todo: Both Toodledo and Todo allow you to tag and display todo’s
based on the Getting Things Done schema. Appigo has a program to load on
your PC/MAC to wireless sync your IPad todo list to Outlook Tasks. With our
security you must be on campus to use this sync method. Appigo also has a
subscription service which uses the cloud which will allow you to sync from
anywhere.
BROWSERS
None of the browsers on the IPad will show Flash video so you may often see
the note that “The video is not available, please download the appropriate
version of Adobe Flash Player” – sorry, you can’t.
Safari: Built-in browser from Apple but it does not have all the bells and
whistles of the PC/MAC version
Atomic Web :More like a browser you would expect to see on a PC/MAC, with
tabs, full screen capabilities, etc.

1. Practical guide to clinical medicine: Focus on medical student level
basics. But if you have not been US health care system before, this is a
great introduction. The sections for write-ups and oral presentations are
particularlly useful for intern-to-bes. The medical links there provide many
