PS Writing
1. No grammar, spelling mistake: native speaker help modify, final
version---let him/her modify;
2. Length: 1 page, 700 to 800 words; how to write PS:
a) list the items you want to mention, may be 3 pages, finally make it into
1 page, after a few days, change items, concentrate most impressive items,
long process, should consider about it from now;
b) choose the right person: suitable Americans, education, MD, read many PS
before, know how to evaluate a PS; c) how to describe you as a vivid person:
make yourself a lively person from detail description;
d) know residency training is for patient care: even if you have CNS papers,
program care about if you can take good care of patients---that's the
purpose of residency training, you may mention research, but don't say too
much about it;
e) old style story: don't copy stories from websites, e.g., I was awfully
sick, some excellent doctor saved me; some of my relative patients got
severe disease, that make me want to be doctors; check websites to learn how
AMGs write their PS, the methods, the process of my maturity;
f) Whether you should pay a commercial company to do it for you: depends on
yourself, I did it myself, when IVed, interviewers may find out if you
copied others' PS or similar stories; if you are funny to be with in reality;
e) prepare two CVs: one short (1 page of complete CV)--- USMLE Scores,
clinical experience, whether needs visa, education, etc; long CV--- may be
up to 3 pages;
3. Take good use of Essential Post Zone: lots of former successful
experiences;
4. List your career goal: in short CV?
Qs and Answers:
Clinical experience in China: don't mention too much, program don't care
about it, except you have nothing clinical US experiences;
Hobbies: have to be really crazy about some hobby; e.g., reading books---may
be asked which book you have read; playing basketball--- have you really
enjoyed playing it? you have to have enough knowledge about the hobbies so
that PD can talk about it with you;
CV Printing: buy good papers specific from office depot; make good layouts,
clearly, easy to read;
Photo modifying software: morebeauty2?
Which store to take photos: Sears? Walmart not good enough?
University IM: though scores are not very high, 1st time applied; Nov sent
email with one-page CV to express Program; call programs in Nov, Dec; the
whole package matters! apply as many programs as you can! use connection:
strong connection, chief, director, senior attending; do more clinical
rotations!
OB: more than half year, though 1 day per week;
