(1)Personal statement: 用PS说故事, 表现出对专业的热情, 花1~2个月写, 在PS中提
及自己5年和10年计画, 说服program你有持续性, 坚持同一个专业.
(2)CV: 对自己做过的OB细节写清楚, 面试前要对自己CV的内容都能非常熟练, 对答如流
(3)Interview: 面试时要表现出自信及诚恳, 面试前做好program director和其他
faculty的背景调查, 这样面试过程中还能套词, 让PD对你印象深刻, 也要表现出自己
的喜爱和personality ie. positive attitude, easy to work with. 若有connection
也是帮忙找IV的很好机会, 但是connection 找来的IV也不是保证会Rank你, 只能说是
各敲门砖, 还是要自己努力
(4)LOR: 选择pathology的话, 有pathology的LOR非常重要. 另外找真的有和你有工作
过的人写, LOR内容会比较有意义
(5)Observership: 做OB时要积极主动参与讨论, 每天记下case情况, 有空马上用up to
date查, 表现出team spirit, 能帮忙的杂事都主动帮忙, 如果是从volunteer开始的
话, 不要嫌运送病人的工作浪费时间, 藉由这样和medical staff熟悉, 然后寻找可以

Contact MD for shadow, don’t be shy
Local hospital(volunteer:transport pts,cleaning,house-keeping,not
wasting time)
Volunteer at weekend, translation for Chinese Pt
Build up relation with MD,nurse(time-consuming,but beneficial for
long run)
Apply Path+Psychiatry:
most ppl apply >=2 programs, very common in applicants,
It is hard to hide during application
Prepared to be asked during interview about two programs:
Such as: Expose to broad view of different specificities
PS writing:
Very impotant,1st impression(one interview is based on PS)
6 interviews(many PD mention PS)
Good PS can clearly explain many critical questions,such as why change areas
,should be individualized. Based on your Own experience
Better have a story (e.g. a Pt during OB,PhD thesis related psychiatry,
family Pt)
Ok to use commercial by providing your own material
Keep in touch with PD after interview:
email PD to introduce urself(not sure if it is useful)
Try best to know more about PD from google,etc to find common topics
One PD know the MD writing ROL ,and trust the MD
Ask to recommend a book in the field (interaction with PD)
Why not matched last year?
No Step3 (passed this year: pass is enough, very important for Path and

Personal Statement Psychiatry

Grace, a young Korean lady with Schizophrenia, was the first patient I met
when I started an observership at Department of Psychiatry in xxx Medical
Center. She had an illusion that God assigned her a secret mission to meet
First Lady, Michelle Obama, at a local bus station. When questioned by the
treatment team, she insisted that she was completely normal and urged to be
discharged immediately to fulfill her mission. When refused, she started to
throw dirty words at us. In the end, she yelled and cursed at the attending
psychiatrist: “Somebody’s son or daughter will die if I do not leave here
today!” After Grace was taken out, Dr. A, my attending, asked me softly: “
Do you still want to be a psychiatrist?”
Do I?
Yes, I do!
My interest in psychiatry is deeply rooted and won't waver easily. Grace’s
story reminded me of my classmate in middle school, a beautiful girl who had
sudden onset of psychosis, diagnosed later with Schizophrenia, had to quit
school and became mentally disabled. Her mental disease not only destroyed
her own life, but also threw the whole family into hell.

发帖数: 229 | 8 十分感谢speakers和组织活动的各位，能一下子听到这么多成功的经验真是受益匪浅。
前面同学的Note也很详细。我由于个人原因没能记下笔记。但是对各位对CMG我们这个
群体的提携和帮助是非常有体会的。非常同期oldbrother的一点是，中国人不是不团结
。很多时候能帮助中国人最多的恰恰是我们中国人。我们不是和自己竞争，而是在和世
界各地的IMG和AMG竞争，只有把CMG的名声打响，我们CMG的路才会越走越宽。
有很多人在会上问了CS的事情，我就贡献一点关于cs辅导班和tutor的信息吧。
我和我周围的人上过的班中，kaplan和Florida的Ximedus是比较好的，他们都会教给你
一个对cs全面的认识，这些自己看书是看不出门道的，因为我们不知道他们要考察的究
竟是什么。CS考试是越来越难的，所以还是推荐上一个辅导班的，
tutor我没有用过，但是我的朋友用过好几个，她说每个tutor针对的方面面不一样，有
时候也比较主观，所以我个人觉得还是上完课以后如果你觉得自己英语或
interpersonal skills有问题的话，找tutor练，如果都还行的话，就照自己的
protocol练就好了。
