Dr. Mike: 我叫Mike， 简单介绍一下我自己：
53 years old veteran, acquired my MD in Southeast Asia after I married a
native asian woman and has resided there since the war. For the past 15 yrs,
I have attempted each year for a residency program but not successful. I was
born in TX. USMLE score is 99/99/pass
Dr.Chi’: i am also anapplicant. YOG >15, has been in lab for >10 years.

Dr. Liu- PD: Let me introduce our program a little bit:
Our internal medicine residency program is located in beautiful and
mysterious Pemian Basin area at Texas. Our medical team provide
comprehensive medical serves for the people in the Permian Basin area for
more than 50 years. We have first class intensive care and cardiology
facilities. We are also a national leading research center in training of
rural track medical professionals and medical service for underserved area,
inspired by the spirit of Chinese Barefoot Doctors. Our goal is to train
internists who have integrated capabilities to provide medical service to
the people, preferrably in Pemian Basin area.

Dr. Chi’s response: thanks for into. I have read about your program and
impressed the dedication of your faculty. I had read some article about your
famous cadiac center.
**** A & Q part:
1.Dr. Lexian Q to Dr.Mike:
let me ask you a question, i looked at your package earlier, what do you
think is the single most important reason that you failed to match so far?
and how you have done anything differently this time?
Mike A: Very good Q.
I never understood. My strength is so obvious but those PDs are just...
Well this time I have screened all Programs and picked up thoseprograms
which are more friendly to senior IMG's and disabled candidates.
2.Dr. Mike A to PD’s Q: That is not a problem at all. I just need to run a
little fast. In a stressful condition, I don't need a can to run. But if I
don't use a cane, my disablity check will be cancelled. Sorry, life is not
easy..My hands are stronger than most residents, possibly due to my leg
weakness.So no worry for chest compression.

How can you perform these duties with a cane?
3.Dr. Liu- PD’ Q : Dr. Chi, I realized you have been done research for a
long time and very productive in publications. What makes you heading back
to clinical direction?
Chi’s A –I always think the ultimate goal for research is to help
patiwents. And modern doctor should understand modern scients. I switch to
science is to become a better doctor.
As my initial science background is not as strong as some AMG, I went to
medical schooldirectly from high school. Several years of sciences have
made solid ground for my science basis. Different people have different
approached. For me I would become a better phycisian after these years in
science and give me a different angle to study the disease. I understand the
interruption in medicine would do some harm in my medical training, but I
am glad for what I achieved and would do a good job if you give me a chance
in your prestigious program.
Dr. Liu- PD’s comment on Dr. Chi’s A : I guess I have a different angle to
approach this question: Most of the doctors here have no research or
science major backgound at all. I was majored in music before entering
medical school. I don't think these doctors
have a weaker understanding of the diseases at all!

Dr. Chi’s comment: I am sure they are good doctors. To me, without that
many years of science trainings, I couldnoy have understood disease better.
4.Dr. Liu Q to Dr. Chi: Well, do you think in order to understand modern
science, a doctor has to work as a scientist for several years. In another
word, a doctor who didn't work as a scientist can't become a better doctor?
Dr. Chi’s A: ?
5.Chi’s Q: Do you support resident research during the residency as you
have the state of the art research facility on campus?
Dr. Liu's A to Dr. Chi’s Q: Yes we have one month research electives during
the whole residency. What kind of research are you expecting during your
residency?
Chi's A : I am interested in clinical related research. As I have strong
biology research background, I would prefer applying my knowledge during the
residency. As I know, the most important thing in residency training is
clinical training. I would sacrifice my weekend and off time to do research
work.
Can go to meeting for presentation if I got my abstract submitted?
Dr. Liu-PD A to Dr. Chi’s Q: Hehe, thank you for your enthusiasm in
research, but Dr. Chi, if you have paid attention to my introduction of the
program: "We are also a national leading research center in training of
rural track medical professionals and medical service for underserved area,
inspired by the spirit of Chinese Barefoot Doctors."
Are you interested in such kind of research? I guess these are a little bit
far away from your strong biology research background?
6.Dr. Lexian Q to Dr. Mike( A+) : well, Dr. A+, obviously you are very
smart and diligent, evidenced by your excellent test score. but do you
think long YOG （15 yrs) would be a problem in the high pace training?
Dr. Mike’s A: Acutally the scores only say something about me but not even
close to who I am. I agree high YOG is a concern as a PD, but I have the
heart. After 15 years, I still miss my medical career, and am determint to
be a doc even with my advanced age. My knowledge is still up to date with a
high score. My age is also an advantadge in terms of personal skill and
maturity.
Dr. Liu’s comment and Q : That's very good thought! Can you give an example
on how your old age will be an advantage in personal skills?
Mike’s A: ?
7.Dr. Chi’ Q-where are all the residents go after graduation? do the
program help them find fellowship?
PD’ A:?
