Grace still can't physically embrace her son Alex. (SBS)
Grace Wang, who was injected with a skin-cleanser instead of an epidural,
has spoken out on TV for the first time about the anaesthetist's mistake
that changed her life forever.
Grace and her husband, Jason Zheng, were looking forward to becoming new
parents, but the biggest moment of their lives turned to tragedy when a
routine epidural procedure went horribly wrong.
An anaesthetist mistakenly injected chlorhexidine, a skin-cleansing fluid in
place of a pain killing agent into Grace's spine.
The 33-year-old mother suffered massive nerve damage, endured two brain
surgeries and ended up paralysed from the waist down.
The joys of new motherhood turned into despair, as Grace discovered she
couldn't even hold her newborn, Alex. She still can't physically embrace him
.

不过那两个怎么能搞混呢， chlorhexidine是清皮肤的， 通常是iodine,装锡纸包里，
对iodine过敏才用chlorhexidine。 但都是先用了， 才开后面的东西： 几种液体包
括水， lidocaine, lidocaine with epi倒是会混， 但全打入了也不会出事的。 那个
anesthetist不是在high吧？！ |

以前是用betadine的， 现在讲究美观（当然data好像要好）， 一律要用
chlorhexidine， 我们都是用现成的， 就是海绵里已经浸透了chlorhexidine。 用瓶
子的chlorhexidine我从来没见过， 瓶子应该与lidocaine的不一样吧？
估计从此以后，要么重新使用betadine， 要么往chlorhexidine里加色素。
这个case肯定是个10 million赔偿。 |

don't mean to be un-sensitive, i deeply sympathize her and wish her the best
, however, i see no less than a couple quadriplegics every month as result
of traffic accidents, sports accidents, or some stupid reason (for instance,
a latest one, a 19 yo try to do his own roof repair in a winter day, yeah,
he got safty gear, but didn't know how to use, at least he didn't know that
he DID NOT KNOW, and fell off the roof heads down), WHY DON'T THEY GOT
COMPENSATE THE SAME?

2. It is harm from negligence. The doc harmed the patient. It is not purely
an accident.

case中明显不够， 100万几个人分，没多少啊。

driving and run down a passenger is not negligence? it's grotesquely

Auto insurance is only 100k per person. Malpractice is 1M. This says
enough about the difference.

麻醉师不仅仅犯了把药品搞错的错误， 而且把epidural变成了intradual了，否则这个
病人不会需要craniotomy。 |

cytarabine into spinal space, this was a AIDS patient who has Burkitt
lymphoma. He suffered from ascending progressive paralysis and died 1 week
later. I do not recall that the lawsuit was carried out . I overheard that
patient loved his hematologist so much that he was not going to sue. |

edema
on top of procedural violation. He should clean the skin first, then prepare
intrathecal injection. He must have opened everything all at once and got
mix up.
