reform model that seeks to tie provider reimbursements to quality metrics
and reductions in the total cost of care for an assigned population of
patients. A group of coordinated health care providers form an ACO, which
then provides care to a group of patients. The ACO may use a range of
different payment models (capitation, fee-for-service with asymmetric or
symmetric shared savings, etc.). The ACO is accountable to the patients and
the third-party payer for the quality, appropriateness, and efficiency of
the health care provided. According to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services (CMS), an ACO is "an organization of health care providers that
agrees to be accountable for the quality, cost, and overall care of Medicare
beneficiaries who are enrolled in the traditional fee-for-service program
who are assigned to it."

We just had a hospital retreat and had a speaker talked about ACO. I am
also aware there are some articles talking about ACO replacing insurance
companies. NYT had an article recently predicting 10 years later insurence
company will be gone.
My gut feeling is this thing is not going to work. This is exactly what
managed care is. Medical communism is coming to America. | a**e

现在到处都是cut cost，所以managed care首当其冲也不惊讶。今天看Romney演讲，气
势很足啊。当年一个摩门被大家揪住不放,现在振臂一呼 "I know how to make money!
"大家也就不记得什么了。：）
