are not. True 腰椎间盘突出 (herniated disc) is quite uncommon.
Most acute lower back pain recover by itself. There is no evidence that any
medicine or device and speed things up. One thing that is counter
intuitive against the belief of many Chinese is that bed-rest is unnecessary
and may even prolong recovery.
There is an exception to the above. If there is any neurological sign, for
instance, numbness in lower body, weakness in legs, incontinence, she should
see a doctor immediately. These are signs that nerve roots are being
