Officials suffer at the Games
The claim of the Organising Committee chairman, Suresh Kalmadi that the
Commonwealth Games are generally going on well has been exposed once again.
The other side of the coin only confirms the many difficulties faced by
officials of the various disciplines, especially badminton. It is all work
and no food for them.
A senior official connected with the event told The Hindu on Sunday that
they were not served lunch for three consecutive days. “To ensure that the
competitions are conducted on the scheduled time, we normally leave our
rooms at 6.30 a.m. without taking breakfast. It takes almost us one hour to
reach the venue. In these circumstances, is it not reasonable for us to
expect the Organising Committee to serve food at the venue itself.”
The less said about the transport facilities, the better. “We are all
cramped into a single bus. Almost 20 of us have to stand all the way and
back. It is a pity that such ill-treatment is meted to us.” | t*****k
