Polish troops fighting the Taliban were given GPS equipment that told them
they were in Africa or in a small town in Poland rather than Afghanistan.
By Matthew Day in Warsaw 2:11PM GMT 08 Nov 2010
The equipment, according to one high-ranking Polish officer quoted in the
newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza, caused some units of Poland's 2,600-strong
contingent in Afghanistan "to simply lose their way".
Problems with the antenna of the GPS handsets apparently caused the devices
to show random information, telling the soldiers they were in various
African countries or in Zielona Gora, a small town in western Poland.
The equipment was also alleged sometimes to take 15 minutes to respond to a
request, and to have a battery life of just two hours.
The revelations came as Polish prosecutors conducted an investigation into
corruption in military procurement. Prosecutors want to know that why the
defence ministry bought the handsets despite them performing poorly in field
trials. | b*******a 发帖数: 675 | 2 哈哈哈,或许Taliban掌握高科技了
