Sv (50 rem) effective dose and an equivalent dose of 5 Sv (500 rem) to the
skin be
applied, which is consistent with ICRP recommendations (ICRP, 1991)."
Which means the workers near the plant have already exceeded the "life-
saving
dose" dose limits in about 20 hours.

2-7Gy(200-700rem) Death for infection due to hematopoietic failure (4-6
week)
7-50Gy Death for gastrointestinal failure 3-4days
If one stays near the plant for more than 10 days, he will die.
