The new edition of the “World Map of Social Networks,” created twice a
year by Italian-based digital management expert Vincenzo Cosenza, was
unveiled yesterday. (See below for map.)
“The Facebook empire is growing bigger and bigger, because it’s giving
people the power to share and make the world more open and connected,”
Cosenza told Metro. “However, there are some big obstacles on the way for
Facebook to conquer the whole world, [since] China, Japan and Russia are
using their own social networks.”
Facebook has become the largest social network in 119 countries among those
134 countries analyzed, based on traffic data from Alexa & Google Trends for
websites.
Facebook has even been crowned as the dominant social network in countries
like Syria and Iran, despite the struggles against government censorship.
While numbers joining Facebook are slowing in the U.S., those subscribing to
the site are on the rise in non-Western nations. | o**********s
