UM....this bridge cost 2.3 billion in US dollars?? Its the longest bridge??
The Brent Spence Bridge in Cincinnati is needing replaced and they are
saying it will cost 2 billion to replace. It only spans across the Ohio
River. Why is the longest bridge in China only 2 billion and bridge built to
cross the Ohio River 2 Billion?? Did I miss something?? |

If the United Stated Government would build a bridge comparable to this
one, it would probably put a couple of million people to work.

Keep buying stuff from communist China our enemy so they can build
projects to keep their people working while we wonder what the hell happened
. Don't see eight to ten Chinese troops getting killed per week fighting
some dumb #$%$ half way around the world. They have to be laughing at the
stupid Americans every day.

It is really pathetic to see in most if not all posts so far people who know
so little about the world (China in particular) make groundless judgment.
We are still the world's greatest power. No doubt about that. However, we
are not the only power and definitely not the power that is rising most
rapidly.
How many of you have even been to China to get some first hand experience? I
used to believe in our media but find it quite unsatisfactory after
travelling to China.
Child labor?
Give me a break. Do you think China will send Children to work on such
projects? I am not say there is no China labor in China. India or Bangladesh
may have a bigger child labor problem. However, considering the school
enrollment numbers, you will see that almost all (of course not 100%)
children in China are receiving proper education instead of working in sweat
shops.
Cost?
We all agree that the greatest advantage of products made in China is the
low cost. China has a lower labor cost. However, the labor cost is rising
fast. Projection is that the minimum wage will grow at more than 10%
annually during the next five years. In fact, labor cost in China is
significantly higher than in India, Vietnam etc.
Weak unions are another contributing factor. We must not forget China's low
environmental standards and labor protection. These all mean lower cost. In
some sense, we are taking advantage of this situation by importing a lot
from China. If we do not buy these products from China, we probably end
buying from India or Mexico. If we do want to keep these manufacturing jobs
at home, we should also see either much higher prices or significant costs
to our environment and workers.
Quality?
Sure. Products made in China are not particularly known for their quality.
And there are plenty of stories of corruption in big projects like this one.
Let me remind you of Apple iPad, and many luxury European brands. They are
made in China. We used to scorn cars made in Japan and South Korea but we
are not any more. We are still laughing at products made in China. But how
long can we keep laughing. China is catching on fast.
I hate communist propaganda (I doubt China is a communist country). But this
does not mean we should only learn about China from our own media. I feel I
have got a much more balanced view by reading on both sides.
A country with a bright future is a country eager to learn from other
countries. Just go to our universities and see how many Chinese students are
studying advanced science and engineering. Just talk to Chinese colleges
students to see how much they know about U.S. and compare their knowledge
with that of U.S. college students about China. Our century-long supremacy
in the world has blinded us and narrowed our perspectives. Without dramatic
change, I see we will be dethroned a few decades down the road. |

says he would rather that all men be able to understand women. God paused
