BEIJING (AP) — China has opened the world's longest cross-sea bridge.
The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is 26 miles (42 kilometers) long and links China's
eastern port city of Qingdao to the island of Huangdao.
State-run CCTV says the 110-foot (35-meter)-wide bridge is the longest of
its kind and cost more than 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion).
CCTV says the bridge passed construction appraisals on Monday and the bridge
and an undersea tunnel opened to traffic on Thursday.
The bridge supported by more than 5,000 pillars was built in four years.
Guinness World Records says the previous record holder for a bridge over
water is the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana. The Chinese bridge is
more than 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) longer. |
c*******t 发帖数: 5182 | 2 Whoa Yesterday Lol. The new SF Bay Bridge east span is a mile long and 10
years later it's still under construction. Oh my. At the end they had to
turn to China to build the modules and ship them over to Oakland so we can
just assemble it. |

Great, 26 miles long and it cost $1.5 billion. Meanwhile here in San
Francisco the 2 mile east Bay Bridge span is up to $7.2 billion.
Yeah, we have seismic considerations here and labor is more expensive, but
please. The cost should not be $3.6 billion per mile versus China's $57
million per mile. |

Meanwhile 152,000 of the nation's 600,000 bridges are in desperate need of
repair. Our leaders have squandered trillions on unwinnable wars, nearly
destroyed our financial system, set the stage for a potential devastating
downgrade of our credit rating, allowed our cities to become cesspools of
criminality, keep 17 to 20 percent of our industrious population unemployed
or underemployed, and continue to provide themselves with overbloated
salaries and benefits. |

It is just a way of making it more convenient for people to travel from the
tip of the Qingdao peninsula to the mainland. Like their tunnels and bullet
trains. So many F*ing people in this country. If half of these projects were
started in the U.S., people wouldn't have to pollute the environment with
their cars and public transportation would be alot more cheaper and
convenient. But nope, the U.S. politicians would rather sell their souls to
Satan, Middle East and China. Go figure. |

I'm curious as to how many Chinese people died making this bridge. Shanghai
had at least two people die making their ridiculously new highway for the
Shanghai Expo. Before that, in Wuhan, they buried alive 4 people because
they had only one chance to seal and cement a hole in the water with those 4
men accidentally in it. Now they say, the ghosts of those 4 men are what
has kept the bridge standing all of the years. I see it as the ghost of
those 4 men will soon rise up and haunt anyone on that bridge. Especially
since Wuhan has more fog than Silent Hill. |
