By 2008, a good chunk (close to 40%) of "American workers" in the constructi
on industry are illegal immigrants. Somehow I doubt they get the per

only vacations I ever took was when a job ended and I got laid off and only
time I got Holiday pay was when I worked it. Non Union may or may not even g
et health insurance but if they do it comes out of their check.

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in Louisiana is a similar length. It has
emergency phones every quarter-mile, crossovers between the northbound
and southbound bridges every 4 miles, and causeway cops and tow trucks cruis
ing its length continuously. I don't know about the cell towers, but I h
ave never lost a call on the bridge. As for the gas, most cars need only abo
ut a gallon to go 26 miles at 55 mph. A 26-mile-long backup on a 3-lane
bridge would be over 16,000 cars; that's a lot of cars.
