Why am I silent, concealing too long,
what is obvious and in war games
has been trained, at the end of which we as survivors
at best will be footnotes.
It is that reclaimed right of preemptive first strike,
with which the Iranian people,
subjugated by a loud-mouth
and pushed into organized cheering,
could be extinguished with,
because construction of a nuclear bomb
within its territory is suspected.
But why do I disallow myself,
to name that OTHER country,
in which for years - though kept secret -
a growing nuclear potential exists
though completely out of control as
never made accessible for audit?
The general concealment of this fact,
to which I've been subordinating my silence,
feels for me like a burdensome lie
and a coercion, which threatens with punishment;
the verdict "anti-semitism" is frivolously used.
But now, because from my country,
which for its very own crimes,
which still are unparalleled,
is called up time and again and taken to task,
repeatedly and businesslike, though
by slippy lips declared as reparation,
another submarine to Israel
shall be delivered, whose specialty
consists of guiding all-annihilating warheads
into a country where the existence
of even one single bomb is unproven,
but as a worry already shall be conclusiveness,
now I say, what has to be said.
But why my silence so far?
Because I've been thinking my origin
which has a non-redeemable taint from the past,
prohibited me, to put a strain,
with this fact as spoken truth,
onto the country of Israel, to which I am
and want to stay beholden.
Why do I speak only now,
grown old and with my last ink:
The nuclear power Israel endangers
an already fragile world peace ?
Because it has to be said,
what already tomorrow could be too late;
also because we - as Germans burdened enough -
could become supplier for a crime,
which is foreseeable, which is why our complicity
could not be redeemed
through the usual excuses.
And admittedly: I no longer remain silent,
because I'm weary of the western hypocrisy;
moreover there is hope
that many may liberate themselves from their silence,
to request the perpetrator of that recognizable peril
to abstain from force
and also insist,
that unhindered and permanent control
of the Israeli nuclear capability
and the Iranian nuclear installations
through an international authority
shall be allowed by both countries governments.
Only this way everybody, Israelis as well as Palestinians,
still more all other peoples who live in that delusion
ridden region thightly packed as enemies, and finally
even us ourselves, can be helped. |
