You have to love Orwell, both for his political criticism and his clear
writing.
My favorite was in "Down and Out in Paris and London," where he describes
walking down a city street, passing a storefront with 45 degree plate glass
panels near the entrance. He sees a man approaching in the glass and thinks
he looks snide, self-satisfied and generally disagreeable. Then, as he walks
past the window, he realizes he was looking at his own reflection.
