The idea of traveling between the United States and China without flying
might seem ridiculous to virtually everyone, but if Beijing gets its way
that’s exactly what will be possible in the future.

According to a report in the Beijing Times stated on Thursday that the
country is considering building a new high-speed railway that would
ultimately connect it with the lower 48 states of the US.

Specifically, the route currently under consideration would begin in
northeastern China and run through Siberia to the Bering Strait. At this
point, there would be an underground tunnel that cuts through the Pacific
Ocean to connect Russia and Alaska, from which the train would continue
south through Canada until arriving again in the United States.

constructing the undersea tunnel that would make traveling across the Bering

Channel Tunnel connecting the United Kingdom to France – but China Daily
stated the technology is “already in place” and will be used in a separate
high-speed rail project.

nearly 8,100 miles) – extending even further than the Trans-Siberian
Railway. The plan is currently known as the “China-Russia-Canada-America”
line, and experts project the entire journey would take about two days, with
the train moving at an average speed of 220 miles per hour.

Additionally, China Daily “the project will be funded and constructed by
China,” though the details have yet to be ironed out.

Still, many questions remain unanswered. The Guardian reported that no other
railway experts have expressed support for the plan, while it’s uncertain

This interesting proposal has one issue that wasn't mentioned: rail gauge.
China, Canada, much of Europe and the Middle East, and the US use standard
gauge, but Russia has broad gauge tracks. Will the tracks thru Russia be
standard, broad, or dual? Any of these choices will be costly to someone.
The best solution, IMO, would be for Russia either to make the tracks on the
Trans-Siberian railway dual gauge, or build parallel standard gauge tracks.
With standard gauge trackage through Russia, Central Asia, and across the
Bering Straight, most of the standard gauge trackage in the world could be
linked.

multiple times including Carter and Clinton using the absurd talking points
that Taiwan would be treated as the State of Florida if China attacked
Taiwan and would use all weapons against China.

it was Russian troops and rolled out the B-52's, 1/3 of those were tasked to
nuke China. The SAC base commander managed to block the B-52's from taking

I have my doubts about this ambitious plan. Even if it was possible to build
an underground tunnel to cross the Bering Straits, it would still require
the cooperation of three other countries to see it through to completion.

I don't agree with this premise. I don't think most Americans 'hate' China
or the Chinese. I live in California in a neighborhood full of them. They
are decent people and good neighbors. The U.S. also does a lot of trade with
China, much to the benefit of most Americans.
If you said, instead, that Americans are worried about the Chinese, or that
some fear the future plans of China with regard to the U.S., I might agree
with you. But I can't go along with 'hate.'

Rail travel is a great way to see the world and connect cultures. Don't know
if this would strengthen relationships with said countries,but it would do
a lot for enterprise. The Chinese may have a problem going into Alaska.
Sarah Palin may not approve.
