program allows immigrants to get green cards by investing $500,000 in the
state. Rounds saw economic development potential as governor, but the state
’s program was problematic, run out of a state agency from 2005 to 2009 and
then moved to a private company that later went bankrupt. The state lost
money, and there has been a series of lawsuits about money that went missing
. A former state cabinet secretary was found dead in an apparent suicide
last year.
Wednesday’s Argus Leader published a primer on “what you need to know
about EB-5.” Rounds released an ad earlier Wednesday denying wrongdoing in
the scandal.
