An unhinged homeless man — who’s waged a campaign of terror against East
Side residents and has a history of attacking complete strangers — was
arrested Saturday after he bashed a Chinese tourist with a plank of wood
outside a swanky Midtown hotel, officials said.
Bald brute John Addis, 40, nonchalantly walked away from his bloodied 51-
year-old victim outside the Grand Hyatt Hotel on E. 42nd St. near Lexington
Ave. as if the 7:45 a.m. attack never happened, horrified witnesses told the
News.
“He just crossed the street, like that ... he didn’t care,” said livery
car driver Jose Johnson, 45. “He looked crazy. He didn’t say sorry.”
That’s because he probably wasn’t. His victim, Xiaming Huang, was the
third person the rageful Addis has attacked since January, according to
police.
In February, he punched a 39-year-old woman in the face as she tried to slip
by Addis and a man he was arguing with on Second Ave. near E. 39th St. —
about four blocks from the Hyatt.
“F--- you, b----!” he screamed as he threw his haymaker at the hapless
woman.
In May, Addis punched a 7-Eleven employee who asked him to leave the Second
Ave. store near E. 65th St. The employee said he recognized Addis, who had
argued another day with a customer inside the store, police sources said.
A man who works on E. 42nd St. said he saw Addis take a swing at a cabbie in
front of the Hyatt just this past winter. “(The cabbie) was freaked out,”
said the man, who wished not to be named. “He missed the swing. (Addis)
used to be around here a lot, walking up and down 42nd. You have to open
your eyes because there’s a lot of crazy people around here,” he said.
On Saturday morning, Addis, a drifter who had spent time in Long Island,
Nevada and Florida, walked up and struck Huang with a 2 by 4 he was carrying
just as his victim stepped out of the hotel, where some rooms go for more
than $250 a night.
“The attack appears to be unprovoked,” an NYPD spokesman said.
“I heard the punch and I turned around and the guy was hitting the floor,”
said a Hyatt employee who asked not to be identified. “All I saw was (
Huang) lying on the floor, bleeding profusely.”
“There was a lot of blood,” the employee said.
Huang suffered a broken nose and was released from Bellevue Hospital
Saturday afternoon. He was expected to return to China on Monday as
scheduled, but he checked out of the Hyatt as soon as he got out of the
hospital, a hotel clerk said.
Huang couldn’t be reached Saturday.
“I feel so bad for him,” said another Hyatt employee, who identified
himself only as Johnny. “Who expects a punch in the face?
“After that you’re traumatized, you don’t want to stay in New York
anymore,” he said. “That shouldn’t happen in New York or anywhere else.”
Addis, who was wearing a blue shirt with an NYPD shield and sporting a
tattoo on one forearm that read “Jesus,” was taken into custody a short
distance away and was charged with weapons possession and assault.
His arraignment was pending Saturday afternoon. | x******g 发帖数: 33885 | | a*****a 发帖数: 777 | | s*******1 发帖数: 16479 | | q*******n 发帖数: 20306 | 5 这个流浪汉只是想进监狱解决吃住。
