us, a Chinese vessel ... (We) picked up the phone and just talked to him
like, 'Hey, what are you guys doing this Saturday? Oh, we got pizza and
wings. What are you guys eating? Oh, we're doing this. Hey, we're planning
for Halloween as well'." The intent, Francis said, is "to show them ... that
we're normal sailors, just like them, have families, just like them."
The Chinese sailors, speaking in English, responded by talking about where
they were from, their families and places they have visited, Francis said.
Eventually, the Chinese destroyer that had followed the Lassen on its
mission past the artificial islands peeled away.
"They were very cordial the entire time ... even before and after the
Spratly islands transit," Francis said.
"When they left us they said, 'Hey, we're not going to be with you anymore.
Wish you a pleasant voyage. Hope to see you again'." As for Francis and his
crew of 300 sailors, they were unfazed by the intense media coverage of one
of the most highly anticipated U.S. naval patrols in years, although Francis
said his mother, having seen the news, did call to ask whether he was
actually in China.

Our leaders are the fools that play this game. Like two kids fighting by
yelling and calling each other names. The sailors understand what is point
of fighting. Why china is acting this way childish over an area reality is
all use. Sailors know that starting a fight is not going to end well. Any
war with china and usa or russia they all know with nukes. That whatever
they do not going to be a war won by sailors or conventional. That nukes
mean no one can possibly win. That earth including their families live would
end not just them unlike just one side families in past wars with no nukes.
The sailors are not insane our leaders are.
It's the politicians from both sides who cause all the world's problems! It'
s the civilians and the military who pay the ultimate price because of those
basterds!
They're just following orders and doing a job, the same as our guys. The
people don't have any problem with each other, it's the governments that
create problems...
Glad to hear that the actual sailors have more sense then their commanders.
I can't wait to hear what the US will say when Chinese ships exercise their
right to sail international waters off the coast of Cuba. Washington and the
Elite Captains of industry gave rise to a renewed Chinese power in pursuit
of higher profits. Now they cannot be contained because they have their own
group with similar aspirations. I wonder when we will rein Washington back
in from this type of lunacy?? |
