families grieving. When will we say it's enough and stand up to the gun
lobby? |
l*y 发帖数: 21010 | 2 Horror after murderous horror, Yet we change nothing. Already I'm hearing
what will surely be a rising crescendo of cries about "Islamic terrorism"
which will deafen us to reason, and lead us to ignore both the long,
horrific history this country has of "Christian terrorism," particularly
against LGBT people, and of how the ready availability weapons of mass
murder and the ease of their transport facilitate such horrors. We must keep
in mind that the problem isn't this or that religion, but mindsets and
weapons that foster and enable such outrages to serve one or another
ideological or religious zealotry. Violence is never a legitimate weapon in
the battle of ideas, while the sorts of weapons that this killer apparently
used have no place in civilian hands. |
l*y 发帖数: 21010 | 3 Where were all the "good guys" who are supposed to be saving people in these
kinds of tragedies? No, I do not mean first responders, I mean the "good
guys with guns" the NRA keeps referencing. Too many guns, folks, and too
many people afraid to stand up to the Gun Lobby. This is, sadly, the price
we pay for cowardice. Will we ever be a true democracy again, when the will
of the "people" is heard and responded to? |
l*y 发帖数: 21010 | 4 The American public is so desensitized to the issue of assault rifles and
semi-automatic ammo access at this point, that this issue is not even
whispered in any of the comments on other media. The great nation of 'Oceana
' is focused upon whether this assault by Omar Mateen, was a 'lone wolf act
of terrorism.' Whatever the motives - the high death toll - 50 dead and 53
wounded and rising, was clearly linked to the type of semi-automatic rifle
and ammunition legally available in the U.S. and particularly in Florida.
The NRA will act as if this is a 'quibble' - as if the difference between 50
dead v. 10 is immaterial. Tell that to the families and friends of the dead

Can we at least reinstate the assault rifle ban?! |
l*y 发帖数: 21010 | 7 The only way we're going to get our politicians to end the madness with
assault rifles is for the corporate sector to revolt, in a big way.
Mr. Bloomberg, let's warn the foreign tourist visiting the United States -
especially Florida or Texas - that they may be shot and killed due to the
prevalence of these weapons. When DisneyWorld or the airlines or the hotel
chains get scared of losing business, the pressure on the politicians will
begin.

l*y 发帖数: 21010 | 8 Is there an end to this horrible violence? We are alternatively shocked and
immune to these shootings. Our country needs an adult conversation about gun
safety, who gets a gun and what type. No more rhetoric from either side, no
more false scenarios and outcries to protect rights. We all have a right to
live safely without fear in this society. |
