much of it can be summed up by one of Marx's most important diagnoses of the
capitalism:
Capitalism is a system that is based on the exchange value of objects--the
price of a good within the market--rather than their use value, or what that
object contributes to the flourishing of an individual or community. And
this veneration of exchange value over use value is, in fact, one way to
define capitalist ideology, a kind of glittering blindness that keeps people
from seeing the contradictions and failures of the system itself. |
