容，她们利用报纸电视及网络社交媒体发起的大批判运动已经摧毁了这名男生及其家庭
的名誉形象和安全，比如在有高中数百名学生抗议的学期末最后两星期，这家三名孩子
都已无法继续上学，哪怕最小的妹妹上的是另一所毫不相干的中学。如今这场源起于学
生会主席职位之战的冲突早已升级，上周募集到上千签名的一个网上petition要求学区
重申对穆斯林的保护，还要求对学校进行"反Islamphobia"的伊斯兰教育! 这些要求很
可能与CAIR的强力介入有关，该组织已在facebook等发动穆斯林社区参与明晚(6月13日
晚7点）的学区board会议。这种试图利用本来和"反穆斯林""Islamphobia"并不相干的
一段视频以实现某些agenda的局面，值得密切关注，希望大家参加明晚的学区会议：

"Me and my friends got together on a Saturday to make a video for my ASB
campaign. We all got together to make a James Bond type film. We wanted
something entertaining and to keep the people who viewed it laugh. There was
no script. Everyone came up with their own lines and everyone consented to
their roles. After the video was released, there were a lot of kids that
enjoyed the short film, but as soon as we got word that some people got
offended by the video, we took it down immediately. We did not ever intend
to hurt anybody’s feeling or make them feel unsafe. When I was younger I
used to get bullied a lot. I don’t really talk much about it now. I was
beat by another student in a bathroom. I have never wished or want anybody
to experience the pain that I felt, whether it is physical or verbal. I am
sorry that this incident turned out the way that it did. I was not raised by
my parents to stereotype, be a racist or offend other people. My intent for
the video was to portray me as a hero like James Bond saving the day. I
personally didn’t expect the turnout. I want to be able to apologize
personally to anyone that was affected. I understand that people didn’t
take it the way me and my friends wanted people to see it. I am sorry for
all the trouble this has caused, for admin, other students, and especially
my leadership teacher. This video does not depict my personal character nor
ability to be a good student. I am not the type of person who doesn’t care
or is selfish. I hope that this decision that I have made doesn’t affect
more people."

Hello,
We are the parents of the boy who campaigned for next year’s ASB position.
After reading the disheartening posts on social media we feel like we were
unfairly vilified. For those of you who know us personally or through our
children’s friends, we are definitely not the kind of parents that some of
the postings have painted us to be. We would like to thank those who have
defended us and restrained judgement until all the facts are released.
We wish the parent who took to social media to complain about the School’s
decisions had made an effort to discover all the facts. Because social media
can quickly destroy people’s reputation and because false information
often can have a snowball effect, we would like to correct various
inaccuracies.
In particular, the parent stated of us, “Parents refused to have their son
apologize or take any responsibility for a dreadful decision.” The fact is,
when our son was pulled into the office for the alleged offensive video, he
was still composed enough to write an apology. The apology statement is
available below (posted below this one) and hopefully will give you some
insight into the character of our son and family. Additionally, on the
social media site, the parent mentioned, “It is hard to do the right thing,
but it is always right.” We can’t agree more. We never intended to bring
in legal counsel, but when our voices were being dismissed and we felt
strongly that the school failed due process in many ways, we made the
difficult decision to bring in legal representation. Our case was never
about money. Our case was about correcting the gross mistakes made by the
school and the district.
To the other candidate running for ASB president and her family, we are
sorry that the school’s hasty decision in announcing the ASB presidency has
caused this unfortunate situation. Had the school performed their due
diligence with the election process, we would not be where we are now.
Regarding the campaign video, it was not an anti-Muslim video as suggested
by many posts. No threats were made and there was no bullying. The video was
a James Bond styled spoof. It did contain some depictions that played off
cultural stereotypes, as is frequently the case in parody’s. Still, our son
had no desire to offend anyone and as soon as he realized he had, the video
was immediately removed from YouTube. This occurred within hours of its
original posting. As we understand, a few people were “offended” by the
video, but it was inappropriate for the school to take the drastic action of
disqualifying our son from the election and announcing the opposing
candidate as ASB president without disclosing the vote count. Repeatedly, we
asked the school for the vote count, but they refused. We found ourselves
in a situation where our voice didn’t matter. Only after seeking legal
counsel did the school finally release the results of the election,
notifying us on May 16, 2017 that our son won the majority of the votes.
It has been very disturbing to read about the many hateful posts on social
media attacking our family. It is equally disturbing that several TV
stations inaccurately reported the case. For example, one report said of the
video, “It was intended to be a joke with the student promising protection
from ISIS if classmates vote for him.” Nowhere in the video was this
statement made. Of course, the media had no way of knowing that because they
never even saw the video. They also did not give us any reasonable
opportunity to present our version of what occurred. We were appalled that
news media would publish such nonsense. On the other hand, we applaud the
several TV stations that have practiced responsible journalism by refusing
to air the report until they have the factual information at hand.
I am sure that many of you would like to know more and have questions, but
we will not be responding to any of your posts about this incident as we are
still working towards an agreement with the district. We ask that you
respect our privacy. |
