U.S. pork exports fell in June after Mexican and Chinese tariffs scared away

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Monday that pork exports in June
totaled 454.3 million pounds, 12% behind the same time a year earlier.
Exports to Mexico, the largest buyer of American pork, dropped 16%. Sales to
China, among the U.S.'s largest customers, fell 18%.
Mexico in June introduced a 10% tariff that climbed to 20% in July. China
introduced its own duties in April. Those duties rose to 62% in July.
Pork exports "face a very challenging environment in China/Hong Kong due not
only to retaliatory duties but also because of increasing domestic
production in China," said Dan Halstrom, president of the U.S. Meat Export
Federation, in a note.
Combined sales for the first half of the year were 6% ahead of the same time
a year earlier, according to the USDA's figures. But many analysts say the
pace is likely to drop off as the higher duties take effect.
The U.S. pork industry expanded in recent years, in large part to take
advantage of growing export markets. Farmers have grown their herds to
records, while meatpackers have been killing more meat than ever. But large
production, alongside obstacles to trade, have weighed down the market.
Hog futures fell 3.3% to 56.6 cents a pound at the Chicago Mercantile
Exchange on Monday, and are down over 20% for the year so far.
USMEF's Mr. Halstrom said that exporters should concentrate on expanding
trade to new and existing markets. "There is no time to dwell on factors the
U.S. industry cannot control," he said.
Pork sales to countries like Chile and Australia rose in June, the USDA said
, though they import considerably smaller volumes that the likes of Mexico
and China.
Beef exports fared better. The USDA said that overall sales were largely
steady in June from May, while year-to-date sales were 15% ahead of the same
time in 2017.
The beef industry hasn't been hit with the same obstacles to trade as pork
producers. China also targeted U.S. beef with retaliatory duties, but it is
a marginal buyer.
August-dated live cattle futures fell 0.3% to $1.104 a pound. Prices are

不过,或许双汇可以要求政府开恩,免掉血税收.不过60%税收恐怕是无法在中国卖了.
