The parent company of Kleenex will stop marketing one of its tissue products
as “Mansize” after complaints of sexism.
Kleenex Mansize, which has been on shelves since 1956, is sold only in the U
.K. and is the country’s most popular tissue brand, according to The
Telegraph.
Kimberly-Clark said Wednesday that it will rebrand the product as “Kleenex
Extra Large,” but added that it does not believe calling the tissues “
Mansize” “suggests or endorses gender inequality.”
A spokesman for the company told The Telegraph that the brand is seeing an
increase in complaints about the labeling. In a statement, the spokesman
noted that the product was launched decades ago “when large cotton
handkerchiefs were still very popular.”
"Kimberly-Clark in no way suggests that being both soft and strong is an
exclusively masculine trait,” the spokesman said.
The name is already being phased off larger boxes, and will be removed from
all products next year, according to The Telegraph. |
